Top 5 Wednesday: Auto-Buy Sci-Fi and Fantasy Authors

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme created by Lainey @ Ginger Reads Lainey and Samantha @ Thoughts on Tomes. Check out the Top 5 Wednesday Goodreads page for topics!

With the recent release of Obsidio and my obsession with Red Rising and the Howlers, I feel like science fiction has been dominating my life more than usual lately. So when I saw that this week’s Top 5 Wednesday topic was Auto-Buy SFF Authors, it felt like kismet and I knew I had to join!

Here are mine, in no particular order:

Marissa Meyercinder-book-cover

Marissa manages to be a hybrid SFF author, combining aspects of fairy tales, androids and superpowers into her various books. The Lunar Chronicles is one of my favorite series of all time, so when I hear she’s releasing something new, I buy it ASAP!

V.E./Victoria Schwab22055262

Victoria’s books are full of so many cool ideas, from human darkness turning into actual monsters to Avatar: The Last Airbender-like magical duels, I can’t NOT read whatever she writes. Her next book is about ghosts, so obviously I am here for it.

Maggie Stiefvatercover_ravenboys_300

I admit that Maggie’s books can be a bit hit or miss (even for me, the girl with a Raven Cycle tattoo), but her writing is so unique and her humor is so clever that I always look forward to what she dreams up next.

Jay Kristoff51vpagsvayl-_sy344_bo1204203200_

After finishing The Illuminae Files (still sobbing internally) and Nevernight, I am now a firm fan of Jay. He’s another author who tackles both sci-fi and fantasy, and everything is always super freakin’ dark, which I think is awesome.

Pierce Brown15839976

I don’t know if Pierce has anything outside of the Red Rising series in the works, but if he does, you bet your asses I’ll be reading it. (And maybe by then I’ll have sucked it up and finished Morning Star and Iron Gold, both of which I’m actively avoiding in order to drag out the series as long as possible. I’ve done this with both the Lunar Chronicles and Raven Cycle. Don’t judge me!)

Narrowing this list down to five was difficult and I feel like I should mention that Leigh Bardugo and Marie Lu are close runners up. Who are your SFF auto-buy authors?
